Over the past decades, the insurance markets in Latin America and Spain have experienced steady growth, accompanied by increasing regulatory complexity. Globally, the trend has moved toward risk-based frameworks — inspired by Europe’s Solvency II — aiming to balance solvency, consumer protection, and financial stability.
However, in countries like Argentina, broader deregulation proposals have emerged, aligned with liberal economic policies. These have sparked intense debate about the role of regulation and the potential impact of reducing normative burdens.
In response, FIDES and Insuralex have conducted a regional survey on regulatory perceptions across Latin American and Spanish insurance markets. The findings will be presented during the expert panel “Evolution and Revolution in Insurance Regulation”, part of the FIDES PURA VIDA 2025 event in San José, Costa Rica, on Tuesday, November 11.
Panelists:
- Moderator: José Luis Vega Meza – Board Member, Insuralex
- Jorge Claude – President, FIDES
- Luis Enrique Bandera – Superintendent of Reinsurance, Republic of Panama.
- Kevin Lucas Holcombe – Chairman, Private Insurers Association of Costa Rica.
A unique opportunity to reflect on the regulatory future of insurance in the region, with insights from leading voices in the industry.
Insuralex will also be sponsoring the “Lounge Bar” at ExpoFIDES and a large representation of its Latin American and Spain members will attend.
